Grass Fires Ignite in Madison and Benton Counties

Emergency services in Northwest Arkansas responded to multiple grass fires, with incidents reported in both Madison and Benton counties. Fire crews worked swiftly to contain the blazes, which posed potential threats to property and disrupted traffic flow.

In Madison County, a significant brush fire erupted north of Huntsville, prompting a multi-agency response. The Huntsville Fire Department confirmed that Smyrna firefighters were among those dispatched to the scene. The fire, which reportedly originated from a large pile of hay bales, quickly spread towards a nearby tree line. Fortunately, fire personnel were able to bring the blaze under control without any injuries reported during the extensive firefighting efforts.

Meanwhile, Benton County experienced a series of back-to-back grass fires along Interstate 49, challenging emergency responders during the evening commute. The first incident occurred around 6 p.m. near the West Pleasant Grove exit in Lowell. This fire temporarily impacted traffic as firefighters worked on scene to extinguish the flames.

Less than an hour later, just before 7 p.m., another fire was reported alongside the southbound lanes of I-49 at the West Monroe exit. Both fires in Benton County were successfully extinguished within a short timeframe, preventing further escalation and minimizing long-term disruptions. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of these fires.
