Fans of the rock band DROWNING POOL are in for a treat as their debut album, Sinner, celebrates its 25th anniversary with special reissues. The album, which went platinum (meaning it sold over a million copies), will be available on a limited-edition vinyl and an expanded digital version.
Sinner, released in 2001, is notable as the only album to feature the band's original singer, Dave Williams. It includes popular songs like Tear Away, the title track Sinner, and their biggest hit, Bodies. These special editions are set to arrive on June 5th. The vinyl will come in unique colors, including a "sea ink swirl," with other exclusive versions available from Revolver and the band's website. The digital release will offer bonus tracks, such as a special remix of Bodies and a demo version of Break You.
DROWNING POOL formed in Dallas in 1996. Guitarist C.J. Pierce, drummer Mike Luce, and bassist Stevie Benton started as an instrumental group. Three years later, with Dave Williams joining as vocalist, they created their signature sound of powerful guitar riffs, strong drumming, and emotional lyrics. The band quickly found success, touring with other popular groups before signing with Wind-up Records.
They recorded Sinner with producer Jay Baumgardner, focusing on themes of relationships and religion. The album's title track, Sinner, inspired much of the record's content. Songs like Tear Away talk about ignoring outside distractions, while All Over Me explores feelings of regret. Their anthem Bodies became famous for its chant, Let the bodies hit the floor, turning aggressive energy into a shared experience. This song quickly became a staple in sports, movies, and video games.
Upon its release, Sinner was a huge success, quickly climbing the charts and earning platinum status. Bodies was a major single, reaching high positions on rock charts and becoming a favorite in professional wrestling. Critics also praised the album, with AllMusic calling it a "welcome breath of fresh air."
Sadly, Sinner was Dave Williams' last album before his unexpected death in 2002 due to heart disease. DROWNING POOL continued with different vocalists and has released seven more studio albums. The band is currently working on their eighth album and is touring, promising to play Sinner in its entirety for their dedicated fans. As the band shared, "We appreciate all of our amazing fans that have stuck with us over the past 25 years! Come celebrate 'Sinner' with us."
